Judgements of courts usually involve versions of events and which version is accepted by the court as the most credible and this does nto necessarily coincide with reality. Skilled advocatesa re those who are best at getting the judge or the jury to accept their version of events. The WBTS knows this and so has a strong Legal Department and will get involved in child custody cases to try to paint themselves as not being a cult or otherwise harmful to children and because of judicial tolerance of religious belief they can get some traction in this regard.

UK Family Law re child custody where one parent is a JW and the other is not
by Frazzled UBM infor those who are interested i came across this case relating to a dispute about how much exposure a jw parent could give her child to the jw'religion'.
the case is interested because it shows how much weight the courts put on freedom of religion and the right for a parent to expose the child to their religion provided the religion is 'socially acceptable' while also being mindful of the impact on the child's welfare.
i think the judgement is quite naive in its assessment of the potential harm and spends to much time concentrating on blood issues and birthdays and christams and not enough on the wbts techniques for recruiting and manipulating members while they are vulnerable children.

I think it woudl be very wise of you to get some legal advice. Whatever arrangements you accept now could easily become formalized and you will find you have lost ground to wind it back. Being diplomatic is fine but get advice and come up with a strategy to limit your kids' exposure to the WBTS indoctrination. Better safe than sorry. I will bump my thread on UK custody law re JWs. There is a case you could refer to as a precedent for getting your wife to agree to limit the time your kids spend being subjected to WBTS brainwashing.

HOw have you been treated since you realized TTATT? Have you been d'fd, have you been shunned? You could certainly use your treatment by the congregation as reason to restrict your ex's ability to take them on the grounds it would be damaging to your relationship wiht your kids because of all the terrible things they will say about you at the KH - you could use the apostates are mentally diseased dictate from the WBTS as evidence of prejudice and discrimination against apostates.

Why are you letting your ex-wife take them at all? Are you in the UK? Check my post earlier in the week on the UK legal approach to JW parent custody. Your kids are young and impressionable and the WBTS imbeds phobias in children to manipulate later in life. You need to fight now to prevent them being baptized when they are in their teens. I have a zero tolerance approach to exposure to WBTS indoctrination with my Witness wife. I am also happy to give you suggestions on how to talk to your kids to get them to see what is wrong with what they are taught at the KH. Good luck!

What If Senator Markey Called For A Probe "The Watchtower Is A Ponzi Scheme" Ponzi Scheme Itis happening now.
by RottenRiley inrecently with companies dealing with mlm and high group selling pressure are coming under fire from very powerful individuals.
two weeks ago nuskin corp was hammered by the chinese government after complaints their people were getting stuck holding tons of trashy products.. .
what if the chinese government put the watchtower under the same "means test" and "public safety" test they do for nuskin, herbalife, amway, ect... http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-herbalife-shares-tumble-nu-skin-investigation-china-20140116,0,2452650.story#axzz2risvgoa6.

This is an interesting suggestion. If Watchtower organisation was a commercial orgainsation selling a product or a financial services company selling fiancail instruments they woudl ahve been indicted for fraud or misleading and deceptvie conduct long ago but because they claim to be a religion they can get away with misleading and deceptive conduct - how does that work?

Why Do Some Ex-JWs Get Their Feelings Hurt So Badly By Shunning?
by RottenRiley ini ran in to a ex-jw and had a good laugh once he realized i was not going to shun him.
i am a different soul when we are dealing with watchtower demonology, everything about the organization is fan boy based.
watchtower creates the illusion of a community that never existed, we were too blind to realize most of the people we invested time with was nothing more than a farce, once you can't offer up more sacrfices on the watchtower's alter, your going to get less attention and eventually if your kingdom hall is big enough, they won't come looking for you.. .

I don't agree with the whole 'you knew it was coming when you became an apostate so don't complain about it now' argument. As someone has pointed out on here previously it is like a husband sayingto his wife 'if you leave I will hit you' and then saying the wife shouldn't complain when he beats her senseless after she leaves him. Shunning is a form of bullying and all those on here who are being shunned are the victims of that bullying and the fact that they would have known it would happen to them does not make it any less hurtful. I am sure that event hoguh a rational part of the brain knows that Witness love is conditional love, experiencing that as a reality woudl still be incredibly painful. I saw my wife suffer through 5 years of being Df'd. It is psychologically damaging.

I want to send a follow-up question to my sister who has recently cut me off
by Faithful Witness inrecently, i received this email from my jw sister: .
while i appreciate the thought, please do not send us gifts.. our kids are not missing out on anything other than things we try to protect them from.. at this time, based on prior encounters and their affect on me emotionally, i think it would be best if we didn't communicate.. i hope you can understand my decision and the fact that it is not meant to offend anyone.. .
i sent her a loving and forgiving message, and know she has no intention of answering me.

I liked what The Searcher said but would soften it slightly in the following way:
"I wish you would at the very least explain why you feel the need to treat me in this way. Christ himself told his followers that they must do so. (Matt. 5:23,24) Regardless of how you treat me, you will always be my sister and I will always love you."

Education and access to information are the biggest fears for the WBTS because that is what makes it so hard for them to recruit and retain members in developed countries hence the focus on OBEY NO MATTER WHAT.
BTW big mac - I just noticed your comment about your filipina fiancee - don't tell Adamah, he will think she is a mail order bride! And yes you are righ the Filipinos do not shun family as instructed by the WBTS, thankfully

Peace In The Middle East - It's a comin'
by scotoma infrom the un news centre (with breaking news from the un news service).
un officials hope observance of international year will lead to israeli-palestinian peace16 january 2014 the united nations today launched the international year of solidarity with the palestinian people, with senior officials urging that the observance be used to redouble efforts to achieve a durable peace between israel and palestine.. the coming year will be crucial to achieving the two-state solution, deputy secretary-general jan eliasson said in his remarks to the un general assemblys committee on the exercise of the inalienable rights of the palestinian people.. mr. eliasson said israeli and palestinian negotiators are working hard towards a peaceful, comprehensive settlement of all permanent status issues.
that means a settlement that ends the occupation that started in 1967 and which would end the conflict.. it also means securing an independent, viable and sovereign state of palestine living alongside a secure state of israel, where each side recognizes the others legitimate rights, he added.. the secretary-general and i urge all in the international community to work together to translate the solidarity and desire for peace expressed on this occasion into positive action for security and for justice.. last november, the general assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming 2014 as the international year of solidarity with the palestinian people, and requested the committee to organize activities around the observance.. general assembly president john ashe told todays meeting that he hoped the year leads to robust support for the people of palestine.

I have read the article. I see the points he is making. I read it is as saying the conidtions are ripe for a good start to negotiations. I agree with that. If the US is really prepared to give the Israeli right wing some tough love and force them to the negotiating table that is a good start. Whether that can be sustained when the going gets tough in the face of the US Zionist lobby, which traditionally has more influence over the Democrats is one question. Another is whether Netanyahu will actually put a stop to new settlements in the West Bank much less wind them back. A further question is whether Abbas has the political authority to negotiate on behalf of all Palestinians - he is the President of the Gaza Strip Palestinian state, which in most respects has been a failed experiment, and so one wonders whether the West Bank Palestinians will allow him to negotiate on their behalves. Hamas may be weak but they are far from out of the picture. Also as I mentioned previously Jerusalem is a huge sticking point. So what you can expect is a lot of posturing to ensure that a particualr party can not be blamed for killing the process but glacial progress. Hence my reasons for doubting that a substantive peace agreement will be signed this year. But I am happy to agree that there may be grounds for optimism that peace negotiations will get under way this year and may make some progress.
